Introducing Hokubei Budogu.

Hokubei Budogu is an online Kendo shop based in USA (Hokubei means North America).

Founded by Yong Wook Back in November 2023, we retail high-quality Kendo equipment at competitive rates.

Thanks to the support from the Kendo community in the United States, we continue to expand daily.

We are very focused on importing a variety of quality shinai, bogu, keikogi, hakama, and other Kendo equipment.

Our goal is to give the Kendo community access to quality Kendo equipment at affordable rates, to enhance their Kendo experience.

We are extremely proud to be a reseller of Sehyun’s Kendo Bogu in the United States.

Korea has the 2nd largest Kendo population outside of Japan, and Sehyun has been at the forefront of designing, manufacturing, and improving Kendogu since 1978. Sehyun is favored by many past, current, and upcoming Korean National Team members, as well as beginners in the Kendo community.

Ich war derart begeistert,  dass so viel Zeit und Liebe investiert wurde.  Alle nötigen Maße konnten durch diese hoch professionelle Unterstützung genommen werden. Der Bogu passt wie angegossen.   I recently purchased some Madake Jissengata shinai with Koban tsuka. I truly enjoy the way this specific shinai feels balanced in my hands during practice. Already a very big fan!

  I've heard good reviews regarding Sehyun's Atomic Origin kendogi and hakama line. So, when I heard that Hokubei was selling them in the US, I had to contact them right away. I talked to Yong Back Sensei, and he was great with helping out with getting the right size, and making sure that everything was correct before finalizing the order. Took exactly one month from placing the order to receiving it at my doorstep due the set being shipped from Korea. The kendogi and hakama fit great! Glad I took the recommendation to order a size up because these do run a bit tighter for us bigger folks 😅. If anybody is looking for a really good, almost traditional looking polyester kendogi and hakama, I recommend reaching out to Hokubei to get the Atomic Origin!

  I bought my first set of jissen shinais around 3 months ago from Hokubei. I saw an improvement in my kendo almost immediately (although I still have much to go).

I tried to post a review then, but for some reason, it didn’t go through.

Anyway, I recently bought 4 more, so I’m set for the whole year! That being said, I’m still on my very first shinai, and I go to kendo class at least 2-3 times a week! Very sturdy, very well balanced, and incredibly pleasant to use!

I’ve bought other things from Hokubei as well, like the Hogu couple pack (kendo YouTubers from Korea), and t-shirts, and shinai accessories, all shipped fast and well packed.

I’ve also tried other kendo stores in the past, but as Hokubei adds to its stock, I probably will use Hokubei first and foremost due to good service and good quality products. 😊

  These beautiful shinai arrived quickly and were able to be used immediately. Many vendors ship shinai that are too dry and need to be oiled before use. With Hokubei Budogu, my shinai arrived fresh and ready for practice.

Shipping Policy

Hokubei Budogu, Kendo shop in USA, has a general shipping policy of free shipping within the USA for purchases of $100 or more by UPS Ground.

However, some products do not qualify for free shipping regardless of the $100 shopping cart.

If your purchase is below $100, we offer flat-rate shipping within the USA depending on product size:

Oversized package – Flat rate of $25
- Shinai or Bogu
- Boxes larger than 12″ x 12″ x 12″
Regular package: Flat rate of $15
- Kendogi / Hakama
- Boxes below 12″ x 12″ x 12″ dimension
Small package: Flat rate of $6.50
- Small accessories
- Poly/Bubble Mailers

Custom products or brand-specific products may incur additional shipping rates.

For customers outside of the USA, we will give you a shipping quote according to the product and destination. Some products can be shipped to neighboring countries for free.

Return Policy

Please contact us at [email protected] before returning any items. Please let us know the reason for the return, so we can discuss the appropriate course of action. Any item may be returned within one week of receipt for an exchange or refund, provided the items are in unused and unwashed condition. All returned items must be in their original condition and include any tags and packaging.
If you have supplied the correct measurements for a Bogu set or uniform, and we sent you the wrong size, we will cover the return shipping costs for you. However, if you supplied the incorrect sizes, then we are afraid you will be responsible for the shipping costs of the return.
When we approve a refund, we will refund the price of the item purchased. This includes all sale item prices.
All return items are your responsibility until they return to our company, so please be sure to pack them up properly so they are not damaged in transit.
Unless stated otherwise, customers are responsible for all shipping costs associated with returns. All shipping fees are non-refundable. We recommend using a postal service that insures you for the value of the items you are returning.
For the return of defective items, we may require photographs detailing the defect(s). Please email photographs to us with your inquiry. If you have received an incorrect item, please contact us at [email protected] and we will work to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
In general, customized and/or personalized items such as made-to-order Bogu and or items with embroidery/engravings are both non-returnable and non-refundable.
